Military musings begin
January 23, 2011 at 3:18 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a commentWelcome to WordPress.com. This is your first post. Edit or delete it and start blogging!
As the introduction says, this is my first blog post to Military Musings. No, I’m not a veteran nor do I have a family member serving in the military, but over the last couple of years, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many men and women affiliated with the miliary through school and my Twitter account.
I write for the Paradise Valley Community College Puma Press and completed their program to acquire a journalism certificate. Along the way, I took a class called Writing for Online Media taught by a great guy, Joe Gannon. He required us to start a Twitter account and to blog. Both requirements led me to meet lots of wonderful people. I also attend meetings and write about the Veterans Association at PVCC. It’s a small, but mighty club with big aspirations that will come true.
In this blog, I want to review military books, report on events and talk about people and things in the military. The header for this blog comes from the inscription on the “Enduring Freedom Memorial” located at Wesley Bolin Plaza in Phoenix, Arizona.
Some of my Twitter friends inspired me to learn more about our military. @milblogging started by Jean-Paul Borda started the whole thing by recommending others to follow on Twitter while also posting a sampling of a range of military blogs to read. After following @milblogging, @majbc1 became the first gentleman I followed. Maj. Bryan Carroll posted to his blog and wrote a very lengthy, well-written article on Afghanistan, which I read twice. @AfghanTim came on the scene and posted daily to his blog while in Afghanistan teaching the Afghan National Army. His candor on the situation along with the photos he posted brought a whole new perspective to what goes on in Afghanistan.
Many fascinating people share their views and create an interest in finding out more about the military. I hope their stories and the books and events I talk about inspire others to find out more about our military and support them in their endeavors to keep us all safe and free.
